Island/Big Bend

Distance from start of the stage : 27.6km | Spectators/Seconds: No Portage option: Left hand bank |
The river turns rights on a massive sweep around a large island in the river here. The conventional line is to follow the water down the right as it carves a steady left hand turn. This channel is really rocky so it pays to carefully scout your line ahead and paddle positively to avoid the many boulders in this oversized chicken run.
There is an option of going left of the Island that is only really available in a full river. It requires some picking and maneuvering through rocks and channels and is rewarded with a big drop down a slot through the rocks that funnels you back into the main current.
Right Line
Left Line
The racing line is down the left which is very rocky but is no boat breaker, just pick your way down.
Down the right is a lot easier but will take a lot longer. |

There are two options here – either take the sneak on the far left and you’ll avoid the slot or if you’re to have a little fun then go through the slot on the right. |
